PYP CURRICULUM

The aim of the PYP is to create a curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for all learners. IB believes that all students should be supported to participate in the programme to the fullest extent possible. The school’s curriculum includes all those student activities, academic and non-academic for which the school takes responsibility since they all have an impact on student learning.

The PYP Curriculum is comprised of three open ended questions which compel teachers to think deeply about their own practices with regard to student learning:

1. What do we want to learn? The Written Curriculum
2. How best will we learn? The Taught Curriculum
3. How will we know what we have learned? The Assessed Curriculum

All three components of the curriculum of a Primary Years Program - the written, taught and learned curriculums – function together and provide a framework for teachers to design units of inquiry that incorporate state and national standards as well as opportunities for students to develop the skills, attitudes, concepts and knowledge needed to become life-long learners who can be successful in tomorrow’s world.
